For quite a while, there were no discounts, and used car prices skyrocketed.<\/p>\n<p>Those were the happy days, but the market is changing, and for some, it already has.<\/p>\n<h4>The big issue? You\u2019ve been relying on order-takers, not salespeople.<\/h4>\n<p>Your experienced staff haven\u2019t been selling; they\u2019ve been taking orders.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s the same story with your newer team members.<\/p>\n<p>The newbies mistake taking orders for good salesmanship, but that\u2019s far from the truth.\u00a0They need to learn how to sell, because they actually don&#8217;t know how to.<\/p>\n<p>A lot of people are saying the market\u2019s going to look like, pre-COVID (2019.) At this stage, I agree with that.<\/p>\n<p>I ask you to speak to your inexperienced people. Ask them how many ways they know to create urgency.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ll be extremely surprised if they know more than one.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;There&#8217;s one\u00a0left.&#8217; This doesn&#8217;t even work anymore and your\u00a0customers and clients are way too savvy for that.<\/p>\n<p>Your\u00a0sales team needs at least half a dozen strategies on how to create urgency.<\/p>\n<p>And, this is just one small part of selling.<\/p>\n<h3>Another example I can give you\u2026<\/h3>\n<p>In the last two weeks, we\u2019ve onboarded two new clients facing these exact challenges.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m here to urge you\u00a0not to ignore this problem, pretending everything will be fine. It won\u2019t be, not unless your team gets the proper training.<\/p>\n<p>Just last week, during a remote training session, two salespeople shared that their\u00a0dealerships have been quiet.<\/p>\n<p>They\u2019ve been instructed to call service leads, and customers\u00a0coming out of leases. Both salespeople\u00a0told me \u201cBut my manager hasn\u2019t told me what to say.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When they\u00a0asked, both their managers replied with &#8211; \u201cJust call.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This reveals a gap; sometimes, even managers don\u2019t know what to do or say.<\/p>\n<p>Fortunately, the salespeople\u00a0had me provide them with effective word tracks for their calls. But think about it\u2014if your team lacks confidence in their actions or words, they\u2019re likely to avoid making those calls, or it\u2019s not going to be successful.<\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"font-size: large;\">So, this is my advice.<\/span><\/h4>\n<p>Get your team trained whether that&#8217;s with my company or elsewhere.<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s a tremendous opportunity at the moment, and that includes your finance department.
